NFL
Playoffs Swing Into Hear Gear
By Steve Finley
The NFL playoffs revealed it's version of January
Madness last Saturday when Indianapolis traveled to San
Diego and Arizona hosted Atlanta and on Sunday Baltimore
battled Miami and Minnesota played host to
Philadelphia.
All eight teams came into the playoffs with something
to prove. Although San Diego Chargers and the
Indainapolis Colts are teams that are familiar with the
playoffs both teams made the post season after
inconsistent seasons.
The Colts had to win nine games in a row and the
Chargers backed in after starting the season 4-8. The
Chargers finished the season 8-8. When the two teams
lined up to play the two best quarterbacks in the NFL
went toe to toe like two professional boxers. The Colts
quarterback Peyton Manning threw for 310 yards and the
Cargers' signal called threw for 217 yards. But the
surprise story of the game was the all-purpose
performance by Charger running back Darren Sproles.
Filling in for the injured All-Pro running back
LaDainian Tomlinson, Sproles came up with a
once-in-a-lifetime 328 all-purpose yards that included
105 yards rushing.
The final score was 23-17, San Diego and that's the
beauty of sports. An 9-8 team is now two games away from
the Super Bowl. San Diego now travels to cold Pittsburgh
Sunday. Game time is set for 1:45 p.m.
Other playoff games this weekend will feature
Saturday's games when Baltimore plays at Tennessee and
Arizona travels to Carolina. The other Sunday game
figures to be one of the best games of the year when
Philadelphia visits the New York Giants.
